Every independent dealer in Utah has tried Facebook ads. Most stopped because the leads “were garbage.” The ads were usually fine. The problem was everything that happened after the click.
Start with one offer, not your whole lot
An ad that says “great deals on used cars” competes with every dealer in the state. An ad that says “$0 down on trucks under $20k this week, se habla español” speaks to one buyer. Pick the inventory you most need to move and build the campaign around it.
Build a Spanish campaign, not a translated ad
In Salt Lake County a large share of used-car buyers prefer Spanish. A translated English ad reads as a translated English ad. Write the Spanish version from scratch, with its own video, its own offer framing and its own landing page. In our experience it regularly becomes the best-performing ad set.
Use lead forms, but keep them short
Meta lead forms convert well because they pre-fill. Ask for name, phone and the one question that qualifies the buyer (“Are you looking to finance?”). Every additional field costs you leads.
Answer in under five minutes
This is where most dealers lose. A lead answered within five minutes is many times more likely to book than one answered the next morning. If nobody can answer at 8pm, automate it: a chatbot or text-back that confirms the car is available and offers a time to come in.
Track to the appointment, not the click
Cost per click tells you nothing. Track cost per lead, cost per appointment and, ideally, cost per sale. Install the pixel and the conversions API, use call tracking, and review the numbers weekly for the first month.
Refresh creative before it dies
Dealership audiences are local and small, so ads fatigue fast. Plan a new video or image set every two to four weeks. AI video tools make this affordable — a walk-around video of a truck with a Spanish voiceover no longer needs a film crew.
Do these six things and Facebook stops being “where we wasted money last year” and becomes the most predictable lead source on the lot.
